Evaluation: The Last Step of Successful Kidmin Event Planning

You’ve planned, promoted, and executed your event. Once everything is cleaned up and put away, the event is over, right? No! The last part of any event needs to be an evaluation.

After your event, ask yourself and your team these questions.

  • What worked well?
  • What needs improvement?
  • Any overages or shortages?
  • How was volunteer engagement?

When you pause to ask yourself these questions, you can better plan for the next event. Take VBS, for example. As I clean up, I make a list of overages and shortages. When I place my VBS order the following year, I refer to that list before deciding how many bookmarks, devotion books, etc., to order.

Evaluating your event’s success might not be pleasant. We’ve all had events that flopped, and there are always things we could be doing better. But an honest evaluation can keep you from repeating mistakes or settling for mediocrity.

Take your event to the next level with parent equipping.

There’s one more question to ask while you’re evaluating.

How were parents equipped?

Since Mom and Dad are called to disciple their children, passing on their faith (Deut. 6:4-9), a successful event – whether it’s for kids or families – is one that equips parents to disciple as well.

With each event, think about:

  • What resources could you give to families?
  • How could you add a parent-training component?
  • Can you follow up with event-related social media to encourage parents?
  • Where could parent connections and relationship building have been added?

Events continue until the evaluation occurs.

The last of the decorations might be stored away, and the lights turned off, but until evaluation is done, your event isn’t finished. Always take the time to honestly and prayerfully evaluate. Then (and only then) can you start planning the next one!

When you share the gospel with children, you aren’t doing it because you like to hear yourself talk. You aren’t teaching them the depths of God’s love for them in hopes that no one pays attention or remembers the lesson. You want the boys and girls sitting in your ministry to listen as you [...]
