Level Up Your Review Time with Interactive, Full-Body Activities

Some children learn best by listening (auditory learners). Some learn best by seeing (visual learners). Some learn best by doing (kinesthetic learners). But all children learn when they are active participants.
Think about how engaged the children in your ministry are during all aspects of lesson time.
Do you have the kids’ full attention during the introduction?
Are they engaged and listening during the Bible teaching?
What about during small group time?
Crafts, games, or activities?
How engaged are they during review time?
I’ve been there. By the end of the ministry hour, when review time rolls around, some kids are ready to check out. They are hungry, ready to go home, and have energy to burn off. But review time isn’t a throwaway activity. You’re not just filling those last few minutes until parents pick up.
Review time is a discipleship opportunity, so be sure to engage kids during that time.
But how?
#1. Engage the whole class, not just a volunteer answering the question.
If you call on a volunteer who has raised their hand to answer your question, only one child is engaged. Some kids who feel like they never get called on stop trying.
Make review time a group activity where every child is answering every question.
#2. Turn your questions into a full-body game.
When the body is involved, your brain is engaged. Also, body movement is known to increase memory. Think about how their bodies can be engaged: raising hands, moving to a side, racing for a question, digging through something to find the question, etc.
#3. Be intentional with review time.
Leveling up your review time starts with how you view it. Don’t think of it as optional or simply a filler. Use it as a discipleship opportunity. It’s your last chance to reinforce the truths of the day’s lesson! So don’t waste it!
