Resourcing Families During Advent
What are you sending home for families to help them prepare for Christmas and the celebration of Jesus?
Many families are both more open and more committed to daily discipleship and Scripture reading during December. Because of this, sending home a quality Advent resource or devotional for families is an easy win when it comes to seeing discipleship happening in the home.
Help make Christ the center.
Since Jesus is the reason for the season, how can you help families make Christ the center of their holidays?
The easiest way to do this is to make sure Advent devotions going home actually get families into the Word. According to a Lifeway study, only 29% of parents are reading the Bible with their kids. That’s not a good number. Choose quality resources that encourage families not to read man’s version of the Christmas story, but God’s Word.
Always ask these questions before purchasing.
Not all resources are created equal. Not all resources are of quality. Sadly, not all resources are even scriptural. Never send something home that you haven’t completely previewed. While previewing, answer these questions about it:
- Does it have families reading from the Bible?
- Is it helping to grow families in their faith?
- Is it theologically accurate?
