Making This Easter About Jesus
Easter is where it is at for churches. As ministry leaders, we know that Resurrection Sunday celebrates the most important message ever, and with that, we can expect higher attendance. The Christmas and Easter crowds are making their obligatory appearances, families travel to be together, and personal invitations have been given out to friends and neighbors.
Are you truly making Easter about Jesus?
If you’re up for it, I challenge you to think about these three areas when deciding what your focus will be at Easter.
What events are you hosting?
Are you hosting events that truly make Jesus the center? Or is there a better use of your time and resources? Is the event you’re hosting asking a lot of families? Are you equipping parents to lead during or through this event? Remember, just because you’ve always done an event doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it. Maybe it’s time to shake up what you’re doing this Easter.
What are you sending home?
For parents who are not consistently discipling at home, Easter (and Christmas) are key times to send home high-quality resources. They are more open to family devotions, so sending something home is almost a no-brainer. Whatever you send home, make sure it gets the family into God’s Word. There are lots of resources out there, both physical and digital, so make sure you choose one that grows faith and gets families into the Bible.
What are you teaching?
Kids familiar with church have heard the Easter story. In some of their minds, it’s a lesson that they can check out of. That couldn’t be further from the truth! Make sure you aren’t just telling the Easter story again… you are sharing with boys and girls the amazing account of what Jesus did for them. Make it deep. Make it come alive! It’s the best story ever; teach it as such.
